PROJECT country – Chile became an EIFL project country in 2010. The Panguipulli Public Library no. 296, Chile, is one of our Public Library Innovation Programme (PLIP) Phase 1 grantees. In Phase 1, EIFL-PLIP funded 12 libraries to use technology in innovative ways to serve vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities.
With EIFL-PLIP support, the Panguipulli Public Library equipped a mobile laboratory with information and communication technology (ICT) and travelled to the peaks and valleys of the Andes mountains to reach remote farming communities. It trained 201 farmers, mostly women, in online research and social networking skills. It also connected farmers to an online market, increased the library’s stocks of books and journals on agriculture, and hosted lectures on farming methods. Learn more
