A very successful workshop on open access (OA) and intellectual property (IP) issues for academics was held on 16th and 17th July 2012 – at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), Zimbabwe. Gloria Kadyamatimba, EIFL Open Access country coordinator in Zimbabwe, from CUT Library and Michael Chimalizeni from the Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA), facilitated the workshop sponsored by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO). The workshop was well attended and well received.
Both Gloria Kadyamatimba and Michael Chimalizen gave presentations on open access. Gloria Kadyamatimba also presented on institutional repositories and on the development of CUT's IR policy. She discussed her hopes that the policy would stimulate and diversify submissions to the CUT IR, which at the moment only includes masters' dissertations and past exam papers.
