From 2004 - 2015, EIFL partnered with the Nigerian University Libraries Consortium (NULIB). Through this partnership, libraries in Nigeria were provided with access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. The partnership also raised awareness about open access and fair copyright for libraries.
Through the project, the Right to Research in International Copyright Law, EIFL has engaged in copyright reform in Nigeria. As a result, the Copyright Act 2022, signed into law in March 2023, contains new provisions that support education and research in the digital age and enable libraries to preserve Nigerian creative expression for future generations. The new Act also implements the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities into national law, boosting the ability of libraries in Nigeria to provide information services to people who are blind and visually impaired.
Through the LIBSENSE initiative, which EIFL co-founded together with WACREN (West and Central African Research and Education Network), we collaborate with the Eko-Konnect cluster of the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) on open science advocacy and infrastructure development.
