We’re happy to share, ‘Three Principles of Digital Skills Training for Adults’, a new ‘Small Bites’ training video for public librarians and public library trainers created by the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP).

In the video, Ugne Lipeikaite, EIFL-PLIP Impact Manager, explains how adults learn differently from children and young people and shares three practical principles to help public librarians to design and deliver engaging and effective digital skills training for adult learners.

The new ‘Small Bites’ video is the third completed in 2026, following ‘Keeping learners engaged and preventing disruptions during training’, released in March, and  ‘Adapting Open Educational Resources for Library Training’, released in July. This video concludes our ‘Small Bites’ series on the topic, ‘Organizing library training programmes’. There are now eight videos in this series, which shares practical strategies to help public library trainers with different aspects of training, including managing learners’ expectations; promoting training and social media; choosing and using icebreakers and much more.

Real-life examples from public library projects

The EIFL-PLIP ‘Small Bites’ are based on EIFL-PLIP’s experience of supporting the development of technology-based public library services in Africa, and content is illustrated with real-life examples of public library projects implemented by EIFL grantees. The material was developed and the videos were recorded by EIFL team members Ramune Petuchovaite, EIFL-PLIP Manager, and Ugne Lipeikaite, EIFL-PLIP Impact Manager.

In creating the videos the EIFL-PLIP team was guided by microlearning, an educational approach that breaks learning content into small chunks focused on a specific practical issue or learning outcome. The aim is to create a quick but complete learning experience that enables learners to grasp and apply knowledge immediately.
