In February 2019, South Africa’s National Council of Provinces (NCOP) invited interested individuals and stakeholders to submit written comments on the Copyright Amendment Bill [B13B - 2017].

In a submission, EIFL expressed strong support for the Copyright Bill and urged NCOP to support its timely adoption. The comments focused on four key sections: copyright exceptions for libraries, archives, museums and galleries; exceptions for persons with disabilities; a flexible fair use-style exception; and unenforceable contract terms.

EIFL expressed the hope that NCOP will approve the Bill to adopt a copyright law for the digital age for the benefit of future generations in South Africa.
