Libraries license commercial e-resources and make sure that library users can access the content as well as make good use of it. Simon Inger from Renew Publishing Consultants explains different ways in which a researcher finds an article, how commercial publishers identify the researcher and check if the researcher’s institution has a subscription to this content.

The presentation covers advantages and disadvantages of systems used by publishers in terms of authenticating the users of their content. Simon also discusses authentication systems that libraries or universities put in place in order to help publishers with the authentication of users who would like to have 24/7 access to the content which is licensed by the library.
