Poultry farmers in Kitunda provide chicken and eggs to most of Dar es Salaam region in Tanzania, but farmers are struggling to keep their poultry healthy and to compete in a changing agricultural and business environment. This library service provides business skills training so that farmers can compete with bigger suppliers and sell their eggs to supermarkets. It uses ICT to improve farmers’ access to information that will help improve their production and income, for example, about poultry diseases, poultry selection and breeding, nutrition, accommodation and laying nests, refrigeration and preservation.

The service was initiated with support from the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) in 2012. This two-page case study is based on impact assessment conducted by the library in 2013.
