ABOUT THE RESOURCE
In March 2022, EIFL and our partner, the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), co-organized a webinar (2 hours) with the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) and the Right to Research in International Copyright Law Project* to discuss the emerging topic of AI, TDM and Big Data in Kenya.
The webinar introduced copyright issues relating to AI/TDM and Big Data, the potential of AI and the context for its use in Kenya, as well as the international perspective on copyright issues and AI. It helped to identify gaps in the copyright framework at national and international levels, and steps that might be needed to support the development of TDM/AI and Big Data.
The expert speakers were Angeline Wairegi, Research Fellow (Centre For Intellectual Property And Information Technology Law, CIPIT, Strathmore Law School); Prof Sean Flynn (American University, Washington College of Law); Faith Omondi, KECOBO; Cynthia Nzuki and Mitchel Ondili, Research Assistants (CIPIT). The webinar was moderated by Arnold Mwanzu, Associate University Librarian, East Africa, Aga Khan University, KLISC Secretary and EIFL Country Coordinator.
* The Project on the Right to Research in International Copyright is supported by Arcadia – a charitable fund by Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin.
